During the course of any busy work day, we get quite a few questions about our tools, their usage and issues about fire fighting in general. Ask Capt. Mike is where we’ll post some of the most relevant and interesting questions for everyone to read.
My Rotary Club helps support our local volunteer fire department. Can we buy just one BigSpikes for our volunteers and how much does it cost?
CAPT. MIKE – One standard “Big Spike” retails for $206 + shipping and any applicable taxes. A standard “Little Spike” retails for $ 156 + shipping and applicable taxes.
If you prefer a one-stop, flat–rate purchase, we will take care of the shipping, taxes, and insurance and ship to anywhere in the lower 48 states for $250. I’d like to talk with your Fire Chief first to make sure he’s comfortable with the proper (and safe) use of the tool.
We will make either tool to your individual length, or equip the Little Spike with your choice of heads, and personalize the tool with your Club’s name and the F.D. name, at no charge. See how to order.
Do you have any free videos on training?
CAPT. MIKE –Use of the BST is virtually automatic and instinctive for a seasoned firefighter. We could not justify using a whole video disk so we compromised and made some short instructional videos. Check out the video
I’ve heard about your new tool from a building contractor. Do you make one for them?
CAPT. MIKE – Technically, no. One of the local contractors was doing some demolition work and he used two firefighters who were ‘moonlighting’. They apparently used one of the Little Spikes. Our tools were designed and tested for use by fire departments, but we have found that they are very useful for other industries like demolition.
